Bodum is known for using borosilicate glass which is very durable when exposed to thermal shock or high heat conditions such as encountered in kitchen ovens and microwaves. It will not shatter or explode as occurs with lime soda glass used by US manufacturers using names such as Pyrex or Anchor Hocking. Borosilicate glass is also used in research and manufacturing laboratory environments where strength and durability are often critical.
