Gameplay

The object of the game is to defuse a bomb within a set period of time. The player first chooses the number of digits in the code used to defuse the bomb, and the difficulty level (on a 1–3 scale; higher difficulty levels mean that more steps must be taken to defuse the bomb, and less time is given, and more digits means the bomb will take longer to defuse). There are 4 different tools that the player has access to: wire cutters, clamps, a soldering iron

(for putting out any flames that ignite among the components). Proper manipulations of bomb circuitry would prevent an explosion, while any missteps along the way would accelerate the bomb's timer (reducing the amount of time remaining to defuse the bomb). Instructions by the demolition expert are given verbally (via the voice module) to the player detailing which parts of the bomb to manipulate and in which order. The player must then either replace the parts with wire (cut them out) or replace them with either corresponding shapes or corresponding colors. Once each part of the bomb circuitry is defused, an indication to the numeric code to defuse the bomb is revealed in green. The player may then guess the code after defusing 2 or more complete circuits successfully.

Guessing the code correctly results in the Intellivision announcing "You did it! You did it! You're a hero!" and the player is treated to a view of the intact cityscape as fireworks go off overhead, while a failed one would result in the destruction of the city and the end of the game.
