In 2006, the Romanian State Domain Agency transferred 110 hectares of land to Brasov County. Intelcan Canada was to develop and build the airport in coordination with BrasovBrasov

city. The airport's charter was officially signed on November 14, 2005; construction started 5 months later. Intelcan will administer the airport in cooperation with Ottawa International Airport, and will have an initial 51% stake in the airport.
As of March 2011 construction had not begun.
