Brownhills railway station was a station on the South Staffordshire Line
in England
. It was opened in 1849. It closed as part of the Beeching Axe
in 1965. The station was built and served by the South Staffordshire Railway
, which later became London, Midland and Scottish Railway
(through amalgamation of the London and North Western Railway
).
Unlike Wednesbury and Great Bridge further up the line, this station was never assigned another name when a second station was opened by the Midland Railway
- however that station was renamed to Brownhills Watling Street
after opening. This station was open for 50 years, while the South Staffordshire Railway's incarnation was open for 115 years.
This was one of the three moderately used stations closed on this route that remained open beyond the closure of the South Staffordshire route as part of the Burton-Wolverhampton line that fell, also as part of the Beeching Axe, less than a year later. Goods trains continued to pass through the site until December 1983, when the line was completely closed. The track was lifted in 1985.
