. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 34,507 people in 6,312 households.
The name of the municipality came from the word Bogey-yas, a popular Igorot
settlement during the pre-Spanish time. The spelling was modernized and spelled as Buguias" by Spanish authorities. Just like Bogey-yas, other names such as Loo, Tucucan, Tinoc, Buguias, Abatan, Ambuse (now Kabayan
), Lutab, Karao, Bokkod, Acupan, Kafagway (now Baguio City

Veteran Memorial Marker
This is an emerging man-made attraction for tourism in the municipality of Buguias, Benguet. It marks the liberation of Abatan and Buguias on July 27, 1945 between the Japanese Imperial Army and the combined Filipino and American ground troops. Through municipal council resolution No. 19; July 27, 1945 was declared as the Liberation Day and local holiday in the municipality.
