. It was created on February 8, 1796. Bulloch County has undergone rapid growth in recent years. As of 2000, the population was 55,983. The 2009 Census Estimate showed a population of 69,213. The county seat
is Statesboro
.
In February 1776, the Georgia Legislature created a county from St. Phillip's parish. The legislature designated this parish to be called Bulloch County. It was Georgia's 21st county. It is named after Archibald Bulloch
, a South Carolina native who served as Provincial Governor of Georgia.
. However, the landscape gets slightly hilly in the northwestern and central side of the county. Bulloch County is just southwest of the Ogeechee River
and has many other small waterways, ponds, and swamps. Trees like bald cypress are seen in these areas. On higher ground, pine, oak, and many other tree varieties native to the southeastern United States thrive.

In the county the population was spread out with 22.30% under the age of 18, 26.20% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 17.40% from 45 to 64, and 9.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 26 years. For every 100 females there were 94.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $29,499, and the median income for a family was $42,199. Males had a median income of $30,899 versus $22,479 for females. The per capita income

According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 688.84 square miles (1,784.1 km²), of which 682.07 square miles (1,766.6 km²) (or 99.02%) is land and 6.77 square miles (17.5 km²) (or 0.98%) is water.
