Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 or melanoma-associated chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan
(MCSP) is a chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan
that in humans is encoded by the CSPG4 gene
.
CSPG4 plays a role in stabilizing cell-substratum interactions during early events of melanoma cell spreading on endothelial basement membranes. It represents an integral membrane chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan expressed by human malignant melanoma cells.
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans are proteoglycans consisting of a core protein and chondroitin sulfate. They are structural components of a variety of human tissues, for example of cartilage. The following CSPGs have been identified:...

Gene
A gene is a molecular unit of heredity of a living organism. It is a name given to some stretches of DNA and RNA that code for a type of protein or for an RNA chain that has a function in the organism. Living beings depend on genes, as they specify all proteins and functional RNA chains...
