As part of Paiforce, Brigadier Weld commanded the 21st Indian Brigade attached to Hazelforce during the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Persia. He was mentioned in despatches for his services in Iraq and Persia.

In 1942, Weld was promoted to acting Major-General.
