Elphicke's previous work has included being a tax lawyer, working in the pharmaceutical research industry and running a small business.

Politics

He was Conservative candidate for St. Albans in the 2001 General Election and his party's position in that seat fell from second to third. He was rejected as Conservative candidate for several other seats including Thanet South for 2010 before eventually being selected for Dover & Deal.

He was a Councillor in the London Borough of Lambeth

 and was Deputy Chairman of the City of Westminister Conservative Association in 2002.

He is leading a campaign by Families Need Fathers for children to have a right to know both their parents.
Charlie Elphicke is also credited with masterminding the bid by the people of Dover to bring their port into local private ownership. In a local referendum that has no legal force in March 2011 Dover Town residents voted by an overwhelming majority in favour of a "people's port" rather than privatisation – 5,244 people in favour compared to 113 against.
