Chartered Environmentalist
Encyclopedia
The status of Chartered Environmentalist is a professional qualification that is awarded by the Society for the Environment
(SocEnv), a UK
professional institution whose members are a number of well-respected and established professional institutions across the environmental sector. It does not have individual members, instead potential Chartered Environmentalists are drawn from the member institutions. Ten per cent of Chartered Environmentalists are registered outside the UK. Chartered Environmentalists are able to use the letters CEnv after their names.
The society states that Chartered Environmentalist status establishes professional environmentalists on a par with other professionals such as Chartered Engineers and Chartered Scientists. Their website states: "Chartered Environmentalists are drawn from no one profession. They work across industry, government, education and the public sector. What they share is a commitment to environmental best practice and a high degree of expertise in their field".
