Mitnick began his career as an Assistant Prosecutor in two separate counties in the state of New Jersey. During the same time period, he also acted as a certified instructor of law and procedure at two countywide police academies.
After leaving the public sector, Mitnick entered the private practice of law where he specialized in criminal defense and matters involving law enforcement.

Mitnick also established Nixle, LLC, an information and technology company that enables law enforcement and public safety agencies to communicate privately using interoperability technology. This technology allows local police departments and other government entities to instantly make available to community residents online and text message communications. Mitnick held the position of Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Company from it's inception through late 2010. He is currently a strategic advisor to the Company's CEO.
In 2010, Mitnick created CRM Trust, a strategic advisory firm and speakers' bureau that provides a forum for he and his colleagues to share their knowledge across multiple industries with government agencies, corporations and the public.
