False accusation of theft

In December 2010, Menzies ran into an incident with law enforcement. He was accused of stealing from a Petro-Canada gas station. He referred to the police who questioned him for the allegation as "brutal".

Assault

In August 2011, Mr. Menzies alleged he was assaulted in a public square in downtown Toronto with his son by a Muslim woman who thought the journalist was photographing her. Mr. Menzies claims he was surrounded by a mob, several members who tried to take his camera. Menzies reported the alleged assault to nearby Toronto Police officers, his statement to them being supported by a Middle Eastern couple who were witnesses to the situation. The Toronto police, after interviewing the accused, did not proceed with any charges. Within days the story of the incident appeared on dozens of websites around the world, including the Islam critical "Gates of Vienna" website.
