EDTMP
Encyclopedia
EDTMP or ethylenediamine tetra(methylene phosphonic acid) is a phosphonic acid. It has chelating and anti corrosion properties. EDTMP is the phosphonate analog of EDTA
EDTA
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, widely abbreviated as EDTA , is a polyamino carboxylic acid and a colourless, water-soluble solid. Its conjugate base is named ethylenediaminetetraacetate. It is widely used to dissolve limescale. Its usefulness arises because of its role as a hexadentate ligand...

Properties

EDTMP is normally delivered as salts, due to the acid form has very limited solubility in water. It is a nitrogenous organic polyphosphonic acid. Its corrosion inhibition is 3-5 times better than that of inorganic polyphosphate
Polyphosphate
Triphosphates are salts or esters of polymeric oxyanions formed from tetrahedral PO4 structural units linked together by sharing oxygen atoms. When two corners are shared the polyphosphate may have a linear chain structure or a cyclic ring structure. In biology the polyphosphate esters AMP, ADP...

, has good chemical stability and thermal tolerance. It shows excellent scale inhibition ability under temperature 200 °C. It can dissociate into 8 positive-negative ions, thus can chelate with many metal ions to form polymer reticulation complex, to destroy the normal crystallization of calcium scale. EDTMP shows better antiscale effects to calcium sulfate
Calcium sulfate
Calcium sulfate is a common laboratory and industrial chemical. In the form of γ-anhydrite , it is used as a desiccant. It is also used as a coagulant in products like tofu. In the natural state, unrefined calcium sulfate is a translucent, crystalline white rock...

 and barium sulfate
Barium sulfate
Barium sulfate is the inorganic compound with the chemical formula BaSO4. It is a white crystalline solid that is odorless and insoluble in water. It occurs as the mineral barite, which is the main commercial source of barium and materials prepared from it...

    Water treatment
Water treatment describes those processes used to make water more acceptable for a desired end-use. These can include use as drinking water, industrial processes, medical and many other uses. The goal of all water treatment process is to remove existing contaminants in the water, or reduce the...

Settling is the process by which particulates settle to the bottom of a liquid and form a sediment. Particles that experience a force, either due to gravity or due to centrifugal motion will tend to move in a uniform manner in the direction exerted by that force...
