in 1988. It was based on an original story by Yolanda Vargas Dulché
, who also adapted the screenplay for television. The original comic book series was in the style of the foto-novela. For the role of Oyuki, the photographer selected the Mexican Japanese Sachiko Tsuchiya. Born in Tepic, Nayarit, she became the most recognizable Asian Mexican of her time. The telenovela was shown in the United States in 1988 through Univision

Plot
The story takes place in Japan during the 19th century. Oyuki Ogino is a Geisha, exploited by her elder brother Yutaka Ogino. She meets, falls in love and marries Irving Pointer, an English painter, against both their families' wishes. After they are forced to leave her country for England, she gives birth to a child, Yuriko (Lilly). When Ogino accidentally kills Irving, Oyuki is sent to the jail unjustly. Yuriko is then adopted and raised by her English grandparents. 15 years later, Ogino reveals on his deathbed that he is Irving's real killer and Oyuki is fred 5 years prior her expected release from prison. Ultimately, Oyuki reconciles with her lost daughter Yuriko. In the last scene we see an aged Oyuki dying in peace and her soul is found by Irving's in a last romantic moment for both of them.Cast
