Elections to the Corts Valencianes, 2007
Encyclopedia
The Elections to the Corts Valencianes, 2007 were the most recent democratic elections to the Corts Valencianes
, the Valencian regional parliament and were held on 27 May of that year. As at the three previous elections, the elections were won by the People's Party
(PP) who increased their absolute majority of seats as well as winning an absolute majority of votes - the first time since 1983
that this had been achieved. These elections also saw the enlargement of the Corts to 99 members, an increase of ten members on the 89 members that it had elected at every election since its reestablishment in 1983.

in three electoral districts corresponding to each of the three Provinces of the Valencian Community. With a total number of 99 seats, Valencia elected 40 members (an increase of four), Alicante 30 (an increase of five) and Castellon 24 (an increase of one seat.) Only lists which polled 5% or more in the entire Valencian Community were eligible for seats. Seats were then allocated on a Provincial basis using the D'Hondt method
of allocation. For the first time, this rule had no impact on the results as the largest party that failed to win seats, Unió Valenciana
(UV), polled less than 1% overall and thus the threshold proved irrelevant.
(BNV) who had been 0.3% short of the 5% threshold at the previous election, formed an electoral alliance with United Left
(IU) under the name "Compromise for the Valencian Country (Compromís pel País Valencià/CPV). This combined list, which also included smaller Green and left-wing groups, saw BNV gain its first representation in the Corts, though the combined vote for both IU and BNV was less than both had polled separately in 2003 and the list only gained one seat overall. The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party
(PSOE-PSPV) gained three seats.
The elections produced the lowest turnout to date and saw a much lower turnout than in 1995. Out of a total of 3,491,365 voters, the turnout was 2,448,830 (70.1%) a decrease on the 71.5% turnout in 2003.
