Elections to the Corts Valencianes, 2011
Encyclopedia
The 2011 elections to the Corts Valencianes were the eighth elections to the Corts Valencianes
, the regional parliament for the Spanish autonomous community
of the Valencian Community
. The elections were held on 22 May 2011 to elect the 99 members of the Corts in three electoral districts corresponding to the provinces
of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia. Only lists which polled 5% or more in the entire Valencian Community were eligible for seats which were then allocated on a provincial basis using the D'Hondt method
of allocation. The elected members then selected the President of the Generalitat Valenciana
from among their number.
The elections were won by the People's Party
(PP), which gained a seat, despite a drop in its vote share. Since the previous election, the electoral alliance between United Left of the Valencian Country (EUPV) and the Bloc Nacionalista Valencià (BNV) had ended and both groupings contested the elections in their own right, with both gaining seats in the legislature at the expense of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party
(PSOE), which continued its long term decline in the area.
The respective heads of the list for the Valencia Province are the candidates for President of the Generalitat Valenciana.
