Ellerslie Road is a major arterial road

. Before the City of Edmonton expanded this far south, it was rural grid road Township Road 514, earning the nickname Ellerslie Road. When the city was numbering its streets, it was found that this road laid south of Quadrant (1) Avenue, and so the city adopted a quadrant system, naming it 9 Avenue SW, however Ellerslie Road has remained the preferred name by Edmontonians. In recent history, Ellerslie Road has seen a great deal of residential development, and is now an arterial for the Windermere and Ellerslie areas.
