The railway station was one of the busiest stations in the Kerala
state. It was located behind the Kerala High Court
building. This was once the head office of Cochin State Railways and was built during the British rule. During the 1980s some railwaymen started a railway club or Railway Institute here, but the location was soon shifted elsewhere. The station had all the facilities including parcel office, post and telegraph office, steam shed, water filling, coach maintenance etc. But most of the buildings in the station premises are now in a dilapidated condition. Once major Mail/ Express strains are shifted to here more MEMU
