Divisópolis is located south of the Jequitinhonha River on a tributary called Rio Rubim de Sul. The elevation is 638 meters. It became a municipality in 1962.

The main economic activities are cattle raising and the cultivation of coffee, sugarcane and corn. The GDP in 2006 was R$19,983,000. There was 01 banking agency as of 2007. In the same year there were 167 automobiles, which was a ratio of one automobile for every 400 people. In the rural area there were 273 producers of which only 33 had tractors. There were 27,000 head of cattle in 2006.
This municipality is isolated from major population centers and suffers from drought and poor soils.
