Fuga Island is an island in the municipality of Aparri
, Cagayan
, with an area of 100 km². Together with its nearshore western neighbor islets Barit (4.8 km²) and Mabag (0.7 km²) it constitutes one of 42 barangay
s of the city of Aparri. It is located in the northernmost part of the Philippines
as part of the Babuyan Archipelago. The highest peak is Mount Nanguringan in the northeast, with an elevation of 191 meters.
According to the census of population in 2000, it has a population of 1,786 people in 312 households. Principal village is Naguilian (Musa) on the south coast. The island still retains a traditional culture. For example every year they build a small straw imitation of a boat and float it out to sea, a tradition started in 1656 when the island was almost invaded by British ships. Only the quick thinking defense by the natives kept the island from British colonization.
