Glen Shields offers the Gifted Program as well as the mainstream/normal school program.
In the 2008 Canadian National Mathematics League Contest, the grade 6 gifted classes placed 1st out of about 452 schools that participated in the contest. In 2009, the school participated once again; this year, the grade 6 gifted students ranking 2nd in Canada and 1st in Ontario. In 2011 the grade 8 students participated in the Scholastic Challenge, and the Glen Shields team placed 1st in all of Canada.
The school offers a Breakfast for Learning Program; a program that offers breakfast to students who may not be able to eat breakfast at home for various reasons.
