The first GSC cinema to operate in Malaysia was opened in Kota Kinabalu on 14 July 1981. With the opening of the 8-screen cinema exclusively in Tropicana City Mall on June 23, 2009, GSC operates the largest circuit with a total of 212 screens in 24 locations. 37841 seats all throughout the country. All of which are located in prime sites in major cities and towns throughout the country.
The GSC in Gurney Plaza is the first multiplex
outside the Klang Valley
and the first to house a Premiere Class screen followed by Berjaya Times Square & 5 GSC SIGNATURE @ THE GARDENS in Kuala Lumpur. Mid Valley, 1 Utama, THE GARDENS and Pavilion houses Gold Class screens.
There are also international movies shown in selected GSC cinemas. Currently, there are only 4 International Screens in Malaysia. They are in Mid Valley, 1 Utama, Gurney Plaza and Pavilion.
The tickets are RM11 on the weekdays and weekends. GSC offers "Special Wednesday Rates", selling tickets for only RM6. Tickets for Premiere and Gold Class are more expensive because patron
s are served directly by GSC staff. Children and senior citizens are offered at a price of RM5 per ticket, while students will be charged at RM7 before night on the weekdays by flashing their student cards.
All GSC cinemas have concessions that sell popcorn

It was founded in 1981 as Golden Communications Circuit, while the other, Cathay is one of the oldest cinemas in Malaysia until 1998. Golden Screen Cinemas was founded in 1998 as a merger of Golden Communications (GC) Circuit and Cathay Cinemas.
