Hambirao Mohite was the brother of Soyarabai
, Shivaji's Queen. After Prataprao Guzar he became the SarLashkar i.e commander in chief. He was a great soldier.
After Shivaji's death he played an important role backing Sambhaji
(Shivajis elder son) in his claim to the throne of the Maratha empire

Hambirrao Mohite played very important role in Sambhaji succession as next chatrapati, there was a dispute take place on Raigad that who is going to be next Raja. Hambirrao mohite was Sarsenapati that time and took initiative to make Sambhaji as Raja. he was sarsenapati when Shivaji Maharaj went for Dakshin Digvijay swari.
An able general and a brave soldier, he fiercely resisted the half million strong Mughal army with only a fraction of that under his command. He died a soldier's death on the field being struck by a cannon ball during a battle near Wai(dist. Satara).
