Heparin cofactor II
Encyclopedia
Heparin cofactor II, a protein encoded by the SERPIND1 gene, is a coagulation
factor that inhibits IIa, and is a cofactor for heparin
and dermatan sulfate
("minor antithrombin").
Heparin Cofactor II deficiency can lead to increased thrombin generation and a hypercoagulable state.
Coagulation
Coagulation is a complex process by which blood forms clots. It is an important part of hemostasis, the cessation of blood loss from a damaged vessel, wherein a damaged blood vessel wall is covered by a platelet and fibrin-containing clot to stop bleeding and begin repair of the damaged vessel...

Heparin , also known as unfractionated heparin, a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan, is widely used as an injectable anticoagulant, and has the highest negative charge density of any known biological molecule...

Dermatan sulfate
Dermatan sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan found mostly in skin, but also in blood vessels, heart valves, tendons, and lungs....
("minor antithrombin").
