In 1920, it was determined that the existing school on Fairground Ave was no longer acceptable. After reforming the schools district, the decision to build a new school was made.The contract
was awarded on June 22,1920, and cost about 250,000 dollars. The construction of the "new" Hillsboro High School was begun in 1920.Construction was finished and school opened in the fall of 1921. In 1938, the gym
nasium was commissioned; financing for the project came in part from Works Progress Administration
(WPA)funds
The building was designed by architect J. W. Kennedy. The school is located at 522 East Tremont Street Hillsboro, IL
62049-1853. The School sits atop a hill, is a red brick building,
that faces North
and is surrounded by trees.
In 2010, Hillsboro High school had an average Act score of 19.6 with a graduation rate of 95.4 percent of their Senior class (which is higher than the state average of 87.8 percent). The 2010, Chicago Tribune
school report stated that HHS has failed to meet federal
education standards set by No Child Left Behind. The average class size is 18.2, which smaller than the Illinois state average of 19.7.
