. The idea was to bring the development practitioners on a single platform to share and benefit from their experiences and best practices. The network has a rich resource pool of experts among its members from diverse background and experience in development and management. These experts have been working with different national and international development agencies, Govt. departments/projects and multinational companies. The members of HRDN include individuals as well as organizations.

History

The Human Resource Development Network (HRDN) was conceived by eight like-minded HRD

 professionals in 1997 (they are called Founder members), it has grown steadily over the years. It originated as a network of professionals and a platform where they could share innovative ideas and emerging concepts globally in the field of development and then acclimatize and practice them at national/regional level.

The process of "Networking for Sharing of Training Resources" formally started in January 1997 when the HRD Section of National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) was established. The vision behind this initiative was to bring together various organizations involved in training and capacity development of professionals and communities for sustainable development especially in the non-profit sector. This process was started by organizing a workshop which was attended by different professionals from not for profit organizations. The workshop ended with a resolution to continue this sound effort.

Subsequently the series of the workshops on "Networking for Sharing of Training Resources", continued for next couple of years. Institute of Rural Management Pakistan (IRM) at National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Extension Services Management Academy (ESMA) AJK, Aga Khan Rural Support Programme

 (AKRSP) and IUCN the World Conservation Union hosted six workshops respectively. The agenda of all the workshops was networking for sharing resources with Human Resource Development as a crosscutting theme. The proceedings of the workshops were shared with all the stakeholders.

HRDN was therefore established and registered under Societies Act XXI of 1860. The initial secretariat was setup in a one-room office at NRSP as mutually decided in the workshop; the secretariat had to be located in different member organizations on rotational basis. However it continued to reside at NRSP till the launch of its independent premises in 2001. The present secretariat of the network was established with the support of Aga Khan Foundation

HRD Network started its activities in March 2000 and registered under the Government of Pakistan

, Societies Act XXI of 1860. Its membership has grown up to more than 850 individuals and organizations throughout Pakistan and abroad in a period of 10 years. The network has a rich resource pool of experts among its members from diverse background and experience in development and management.management. These experts have been working with different national and international development agencies, Govt. departments/projects and multinational companies.

HRDN has not only witnessed a gradual increase in its membership fold but has also earned international recognition as a capacity building platform and one of the leading network of trainers. It draws its lifeblood from the voluntary spirit of its founders as well as of its professional and general members. Besides that it has also established its local chapters not only in Pakistan but in other South Asian countries. The HRDN has played its part in advocacy quite effectively since its inception, and have propelled the development processes in the country. The Annual Report for the year 2009

International HRD Congress (IHC)

International congress is organized on various themes with eminent speakers from around the world and Pakistan on issues pertinent to human resource development. HRDN has organized 3 highly successful IHC on themes as;

Annual Trainers’ Retreat (AT)

Jamboree for All Members (JAM)

Jamboree for All Members (JAM) is an evening to network and meet members of HRDN. JAM provides an inimitable opportunity to all the members of HRDN to share, learn, develop linkages with other members and give their inputs for further enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of HRDNs services.

All Members’ Meeting (AMM)

The biggest networking event of members is annually organized as All Members’ Meeting, This is to update members of new developments at HRDN during the year; share programmatic and financial progress of the Network; members’ interaction; linkages development; get Members’ input on a range of programmatic and management aspects of HRDN; mutual sharing and learning; and to contribute towards professional development of members.

Thematic Forums

HRDN regularly organize thematic forums on different topics on monthly and quarterly basis. These themes are selected with the interest of members as well as experts from the field. World renowned speakers are also invited for special sessions and seminars to the interest of members.

Capacity Building

HRDN’s capacity building programme has two major components including;
a). Training Calendar
b). Customized Trainings

These trainings include a range of trainings from organizational development, project cycle management, corporate social responsibility, gender equality, managerial skills, technical / vocational skills, Training of Trainers life skills, HR development and leadership skills.

Training Quality Standards

HRDN is the first organization in Pakistan that has developed quality standards for training. These standards are followed by different training institutions for improvement in their programmes.

Research

HRDN participate in research initiatives and assignments, jointly with the member organizations and professional members. Research studies include baseline, assessments and evaluations; assigned by Donors, INGOs and Institutions. Research studies are documented and published as required.

Documentation and Publications

Beside other IEC material, HRDN publishes quarterly newsletter ILLUME on various themes. Different topics regarding Human and Institutional development are covered through interviews and articles of scholars and experts. Moreover the reports of different events are published for dissemination including International HRD Congress, AMM, ATR and Research Studies.

HRDN City Chapters

The network is represented by city chapters both in major cities of Pakistan and abroad. The city chapters provide an effective platform both for individual and organizations for interaction and networking on regional level. The city chapters arrange capacity building and awareness raising events at the regional level. The city chapters have been established in the following cities / region:

HRDN web portal has been a very effective communication tool in the development sector. According to a survey, HRDN website was found to be the most visited website amongst its members. The web portal contains features which are of great interest for the professionals. The Jobs section is frequently visited for the updated job announcements. HRDN Projects

HRDN implements projects regarding community uplift through capacity building in partnership with different organizations. The projects are implemented both independently and jointly with member organizations as per need.

HRDN has executed different research and capacity building projects in partnership with other organizations. The partners include UNDP, ILO, Save the Children UK, Canadian Red Cross, World Vision, Caritas International, Care International, Action Aid Pakistan UUSC, NRSP, Packard Foundation, ESMA-AJK, AKRSP, ERNP, IUCN, AKFP, Norwegian Embassy, UNESCO, UNICEF, USAID and more.

Pakistan Humanitarian Alliance (PHA)

HRDN is well experience in managing, relief, early recovery and rehabilitation initiatives. HRDN is leading and managing the “Pakistan Humanitarian Alliance (PHA) jointly with 10 other organizations as members. Objective is firstly to provide humanitarian assistance, along with building capacities of organizations and individuals in relief, recovery and rehabilitation. PHA has channeled a great deal of relief goods o the highly deserving communities, in collaboration with member organizations. A number of projects have been implemented in partnership with national and international organizations. HRDN also organize fund raising events for this purpose and collect donations.

HR Services

With more than 850 professionals and organizations in all over the country and abroad, the HRDN is one of the largest human resource advisory organizations. It's multi-disciplinary approach allows it to advise on all aspects of people management, helping its clients to create value for their businesses through people. HRDN presents HR solutions for its honorable members and clients which covers HR Management, International Assignments, from staffing to administration to customized trainings with a wide scope of customized classes and curriculum design, from executive search to temporary hiring, from permanent placement to qualified surveys and assessments.
HRDN bridging gaps

HRDN work as Strategic Think-tank and implement programmes and objectives to improve HR practices, social cohesion in Pakistan and Asia. The organization is exceptional as it enjoys a larger number of memberships in different categories i.e. organizational, professional and general. HRDN has also introduced life time membership in all three categories and receiving tremendous response too.

HRDN brings the trainers, organizations and general members of civil society closer to each other and provide them an opportunity to share their thoughts, views and experiences and bridge the intellect and perception gaps, build partnerships and set out and follow quality standard in respective field as a result of these interventions.

HRDN is unique as it has a larger network as its general body and enjoys the democratic values in the BOD, which provides chance to every member for contesting elections and proves the worth to be part of the BOD.
