Early life

Payne was from Ipswich originally but studied sport at Newcastle University and did a placement with TV Sport and Leisure (TSL). He then joined ITV Tyne Tees

Broadcasting career

On 25 September 2006, Payne was promoted to a newscaster on the now defunct South edition North East Tonight
