The mechanical engineering block houses the mechanical workshop and includes basic and conventional manufacturing laboratories, as well as facilities for the study of CAD/CAM, robotics and automation, fluid mechanics/machinery, heat transfer and data acquisition. The Department of Electrical Engineering is evolving since the inception of IIT Patna in the year 2008. The major objective of the Department is to impart high quality education and research. The major research areas of the department include Communications, Signal Processing, VLSI, Electric Drives, Power Systems and Power Electronics. The Department has online access to IEL, Science Direct, Springer and other online journals. Software like MATLAB and GAMS are available with the Department in order to accelerate the research. Hostels
Two new hostel buildings have been renovated and modernized to accommodate more than 200 students and a new third hostel has been constructed, while the fourth hostel is coming up. The hostel buildings are situated in a walled compound 100 metres from the institute building. Each room has two to three occupants. The hostels have facilities for indoor games and a TV room. Accommodation for women is provided in flats which are within walking distance from the institute buildings.Hospital
The medical facilities are provided to the staff and students through an outsourced private nursing home. A one hour per day for five days a week health service is available at the institute.
