Indiependence is an annual Irish
indie-rock music
festival, that usually takes place at or near Mitchelstown
in County Cork
. Indiependence is one of the "little two" music festivals in Ireland, sharing many of its acts with Castlepalooza
which is held on the same weekend in Tullamore
, County Offaly
. Nevertheless, it is billed as the largest event of its kind in the south of Ireland.
Most of the acts are Irish but foreign acts have performed as well, such as White Lies
, Super Furry Animals
, Ocean Colour Scene
and The Proclaimers
. The organiser claims that, after Oxegen
and Electric Picnic
, it is the biggest festival in Ireland and that there is no festival of this size in either Ireland or the UK
that has a similar calibre of acts.
In its early incarnation, the festival was billed as Ireland's only free independent music festival. However, the festival disposed of its free status in 2009 by charging for entry. The festival was sponsored by Guinness
and Cork's Red FM
up until 2007 with Bavaria
taking over a main sponsor in 2008. Red Bull
joined as sponsor in 2009.

. High ticket prices meant the festival ran into difficulties so Shane Dunne, who is now the organiser, organised a free festival in 2006. When 10,000 people turned up to watch The Blizzards
headline in 2008, Dunne decided the festival needed to expand the following year. The 2009 festival included several stages, a campsite, admission fees and a 4,500 capacity as a result. If the 2009 festival is successful, Dunne expects to expand the capacity to as much as 10,000 in 2010. The site which currently hosts the festival can hold up to 20,000 people, with only potential licencing difficulties dissuading Dunne from making maximum use of the site in 2009.

The 2007 festival took place from Friday 3 August until Monday 6 August. Editors
had previously been rumoured to appear on the Sunday night of the 2007 festival but organisers have confirmed that - although talks were held with the band - the Birmingham quartet did not play. Their rumoured headline slot was instead filled by co-headliners Delorentos
and Director

Tickets went on sale on 16 May, priced at €39 for one day and €59 for the weekend.Locals in Mitchelstown were able to buy the 2 day ticket for 39 euro More acts will be announced later.
Camping details were announced on 8 July 2009 and include facilities for as many as 300 people and flushing toilets. The campsite was officially announced on 17 July 2009.
Stages include the Bavaria Main Stage, the Cyprus Avenue Arena (with an 800 capacity) and the Red Bull Village.

The Cyprus Avenue Arena:
For years, Cyprus Avenue on Caroline Street in Cork
has been known for breaking up and coming acts and bringing the best international bands to Cork. Their presence at Indiependence is no surprise. The Cyprus Avenue Arena saw top quality Irish acts like Delorentos

as well as many upcoming acts from Ireland, the UK, Germany and Italy.
The Monster Mash:
The Monster Mash tent was presented by Monster Energy. The stage will saw a mix of rock, electro and DJ’s from mid afternoon to early morning.
The Square:
The Square was a new addition for 2010. This festival has its origins in the square in the centre of Mitchelstown so there is a bit of history in the name. The Square was a 1,000 capacity tent showcasing some of the best up and coming talent that Ireland has to offer, as well as housing the nightly Silent Disco

Camping details were announced on 8 July 2009 and include facilities for as many as 300 people and flushing toilets. The campsite was officially announced on 17 July 2009.
Stages include the Bavaria Main Stage, the Cyprus Avenue Arena (with an 800 capacity) and the Red Bull Village.

Festival site
In 2010 Indiependence was be held on a new site. The site is 40 acres (161,874.4 m²) situated at Deer Farm under a mile from the centre of Mitchelstown. The site which is a combination of grassland and hardcore is located on a limestone basin at the foot of the Galtee mountains. This means its dry and when it does rain, it drains well. The number of stages also increased in 2010 to 4 covered stages.Bavaria Main Stage:
