. The IAGS seeks to promote public awareness to the strong impact energy has on the world economy and security and to the myriad of technological and policy solutions that could help nations strengthen their energy security.

Since its establishment in 2002, IAGS has become a key player in the effort to create a nexus between energy and security and reframe the debate around America’s oil security. The organization, currently employing five full-time staff as well as half a dozen research associates, part-time staff and volunteers, produces analysis on the geopolitics of energy, the relations between oil and the economy, the true cost of imported oil and the implications of China’s growing energy demand. It has also produced country studies, books, book chapters and scholarly articles in leading publications like Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, The American Interest and Commentary Magazine. IAGS takes part in numerous conferences encompassing almost every major think tank in the U.S. With numerous media appearances and an in-house online publication - the Journal of Energy Security - the organization has become a source of information for reporters, policymakers and the general public. IAGS’ commentary and opinion pieces appear in leading publications like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Washington Times, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Philadelphia Inquirer, Business Week and Time Magazine. IAGS’ experts are frequent guests on all major television and radio networks.

In 2004 IAGS formed the Set America Free Coalition, an alliance of national security and environmental groups working to reduce America’s dependence on oil. In 2009, IAGS established the Mobility Choice Coalition, an alliance of national security, environmentalists and fiscal conservatives working to enhance competition among transportation modes. In the same year IAGS formed the Technology and Rare Earth Metals Center to bring together policymakers and industry to ensure secure minerals supply chain for America’s defense and energy industries. In 2011, IAGS formed the US Energy Security Council.
Outside the U.S. IAGS has become one of the world’s leading research organizations on energy security. In the past five years, IAGS scholars have been invited to brief government and non-governmental organizations in no fewer than 50 countries. IAGS also consults on energy security matters to multinational organizations like the UN, the G-8 and NATO.
IAGS is directed by Dr. Gal Luft and Anne Korin.
