Janae Timmins is a fictional character
from the Australian soap opera Neighbours
, played by Eliza Taylor-Cotter
. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 4 April 2005. The character was created by executive producer Ric Pellizzeri as part of the new Timmins family, joining established character Scott Timmins
. In 2007 Taylor-Cotter's on-screen family were axed, however Pellizzeri decided to keep Janae in the serial. After three years in the serial Taylor-Cotter quit the serial because she didn't feel that the show was the same as when she joined, she finished filming in 2007. Janae herself last appeared on-screen on 8 February 2008.
Janae was involved in many storylines including shop lifting, boxing, having her drink spiked with rohypnol
and the victim of an attempted sexual assault. Janae has also been at the center of an under-age marriage with fellow character Boyd Hoyland
, with actor Kyal Marsh
branding the subsequent storyline which saw him being unfaithful to Janae as "a stupid storyline". Janae has been described as a "rebel and a troublemaker" by certain critics and on-screen she has matured from a troubled teenager into a young woman. Taylor-Cotter has also been praised for the role and has been nominated for a number of awards for her portrayal.

Later that year, Taylor-Cotter decided to quit the serial to pursue other projects such as pantomime and a further career in America. One of the contributing factors that helped Taylor-Cotter reach this decision was because all her on-screen family had been written out and new cast members gave the serial the feel of a different place. She also added: "It just didn’t feel like the family that I joined when I started three years ago." Taylor-Cotter was one of many cast members that quit the serial at the same time. Taylor-Cotter finished filming her final studio scenes on 28 September 2007 and received a goodbye gathering from cast and crew.

In one storyline Janae marries Boyd Hoyland

), he later has an affair with fellow character Glenn Forrest (Cleopatra Coleman
), which ruins his relationship with Janae. Behind the scenes Marsh was furious over the storyline and criticised the producers and branded it as "stupid", also stating: "I absolutely hated my character at the end. I couldn't believe what they made me do, I thought it was a stupid storyline and I copped a lot of flack over it. I was really upset."
Janae's final storyline involves her kissing Darren Stark

), which leads to the breakdown of his relationship with Libby Kennedy
(Kym Valentine
). Janae is described as sad at the sight of hurt she causes Ben Kirk
(Blake O'Leary) so decides to leave, of this Taylor-Cotter states: "It is too hard for Janae to stay, she needs a new start." Describing the storyline, Dan Bennet speaking for Newtwork Ten states: "Very early on, the kiss will be exposed. Kirsten saw it all &, being the vindictive ex that she is, she'll make Janae's life hell. The relationship between Janae & Ned is very much tested after her kiss. I won't give too much away about how exactly she leaves, but audiences will need to have their tissues handy for this one!"

) General Store, but is caught. Janae quickly develops an interest in Boyd. However, this is short lived when she realises that he is in a relationship with Sky Mangel

). Instead, she starts to date Mike Pill (Alexander Cappelli
). However, Mike treats Janae like a possession and allows his mates to try it on with her. At an all-ages night, Mike tries to pressure Janae into kissing his friend. Outraged, Janae throws her drink all over Mike, and storms out, bumping into creepy photographer Chris Cousens (Simon Mallory
) on the way. He convinces her she has what it took to be a model, and spikes her drink. When he prompts to collect their coats, a dizzy Janae calls home. Quickly Stingray, Dylan and Bree come to her rescue. Bree attacks Chris and Dylan took him outside to teach him a lesson about "messing with the Timminses". Janae is taken to the hospital, but insists she was fine. She makes her siblings promise not to tell anyone about that night's events, although Stingray tries to persuade her to call the police. Janae later split with Mike.
Janae's interest in Boyd resurfaces when he splits up with Sky, but after an embarrassing rejection when she kisses him, Janae turns to the school counselor, Karl Kennedy
(Alan Fletcher). However, Janae became jealous that Karl betrays her when she spots him talking to her brother, Stingray. She decides to leave home after overhearing a conversation between Janelle and Stingray, saying how he was the only one of her children that was worth anything. Janelle catches up with Janae in her car, and the two reconcile. Janae finally confessed to her mother about the incident with Chris Cousens on the way to Canberra
for Bree's national spelling bee
. Janelle is upset that Janae has hidden this from her at the time, and reach a new understanding regarding her children. She tries to make her feelings clear to Boyd once more, attending aikido
classes with him, but he rejects her due to being involved with Kayla Thomas (Virginia Ryan
), who is pregnant. Janae continues her counseling sessions with Karl and begins to gradually get more dependent on him, delighted that she was being appreciated and treated like an adult. In an attempt to pay off the family's debts, the Timmins' send off a tape to the TV show 'Stupid Aussies', which showed a video of Janae singing into her hairbrush. However she wins the family $5000, and decides to keep the money to herself, wanting a breast enlargement. However, she quickly backs out when she meets the plastic surgeon.
Karl and Janae bond at a theatre night. Karl realises her intentions, he advises cutting back on the sessions Janae begins to cry, admitting she wishes Karl to be her father. He suggests getting in touch with her actual father and find a new interest. Janae becomes vice-captain of the basketball team, but when Karl arrives late, she runs off in tears. Janelle confrontes her daughter about her relationship with Karl, Janelle jumps to the conclusion that he is inappropriately involved with her daughter. Upon reading her diary and confronting Karl, Janelle trvaels to Colac to find Janae. Stingray and Dylan bring her back to clear Karl's name, and Janae also finds some details on her father while she is there. However, Dylan is presumed dead in the plane crash, Janae turns to Boyd and they start to date. Her father also returns and before long, he and Janelle get back together.
Janae and Boyd go on a road trip, and are horrified to find Janae's ex-boyfriend, Mike. However, Janae shows how much she'd matured, ignoring Mike and his new girlfriend, Karen Chambers (Cherise Donovan
). But when Boyd gets a summer job at the clinic and begins to ask Janae awkward questions about her relationship with Mike, Janae breaks in and looked at her medical file. When she found nothing out of the ordinary there, she checked Mike's, and was horrified to find he was HIV positive. Janae tells Bree, who tells their father, who promises to stand by her. Eventually, Janae admits to Boyd that she and Mike did more than just kiss, and that he should take a test too. Luckily, the test results come back negative, and she suggests to Boyd that their relationship should not be all about sex. However, jealously quickly sets in when Boyd began talking to girls on his medicine course. He warns Janae about threatening other girls, but she continues to do so when she saw Boyd chatting with his fellow medical student, Sasha Hennessey (Eliose Grace). Following the birth of Boyd's brother Charlie (Aaron Aulsebrook-Walker), Janae becomes obsessed with the idea of children. Sasha overhears his, and tells Boyd that Janae is trying to trap him into marriage. They split up, during which time Janae takes fellow neighbour, Ned Parker
(Daniel O'Connor), to the school formal, where she pulled away when he tries to kiss her. She also discoveres a letter, addressed 'J. Timmins' that is intended for her mother. The letter discloses the details and Bree's real parentage, and Janae threatens to tell Bree if her parents didn't. She turns again to Boyd, who rejects her and left for a week at another hospital. Unable to contain her feelings, she blurts out to Bree about her real parentage, and when Boyd returns, was adamant that she could survive on her own. Instead, Boyd turns up on her doorstep and proposed to her.
Janae agrees to marry Boyd, much to the distaste of Boyd's father Max Hoyland
(Stephen Lovatt
). Max invites Janae to live with the Hoyland's for a while, in an attempt to make the young couple realise that married life is hard. However, after the chaos of Kim and Janelle's wedding, Max warns Boyd that if he decides to go ahead with his proposal, he would throw him out the house. Janae also receives the same negativity from her mother, and the two decide to live at number 30.
When they realise they will not be getting any support, Boyd and Janae decide to elope. Along with Bree and Boyd's sister, Summer Hoyland

), Janae fakes a birth certificate and became Mrs. Hoyland. Max threatens to turn in Janae following her fraud birth certificate, but Boyd ignores him, and they go on their honeymoon. Janae attempts to rent a property from a real estate agent, Thomas Griggs, to which Max turnes to the wrong conclusion when he sees them together. When he realises he has made a mistake, he attempts to put in a good word for Janae, but accidentally mentions that she was sixteen. Janae is refused the flat, and Boyd is as angry as ever with Max. However, Max's wife Stephanie Hoyland

) and Janae manage to reunite them. Janae realises her marriage wasn't as perfect as she wishes, and urges Boyd that they get marriage counselling. She also gets a job at the hospital as a cleaner, in hope of seeing Boyd more. Boyd does not like her constant attention, and grasps the opportunity when Karl warns Janae and Boyd that if her sees them kissing again, he will fire her. Janae also began struggling at school, and after receiving money from her grandmother, Loris Timmins (Kate Fitzpatrick
), begins to pay a friend to write her school essays. After being caught by Susan, Janae announces she would leave school.
Janae, with the help of Steph, secures a job at a garage, but quickly clashes with head mechanic Christine Rodd (Trudy Hellier
). Things also come to a head when Janae spots Chris kissing another woman. Janae eventually supports Chris and helps her come out to her family. After Max runs away following Cameron Robinson's (Adam Hunter
) death, Janae tries to support Boyd. When they are made homeless by the new arrivals at number 30, Janae and Boyd move back in with Steph and Charlie. Boyd announces he would try and find his father, who he thinks might be in Tasmania
, where Cameron's grave is. Janae also manages to knock out neighbour Frazer Yeats

), with a spanner whilst practising her skills. When Boyd returns from Tasmania, he admits that he saved a girl, Glenn, from drowning. He tells Janae that he kissed her. Janae takes the news surprisingly well, but breaks down into tears later that night. After finding out that Steph kissed Toadie
(Ryan Moloney
), Janae was surprised with how well Boyd took it, until she realises that their situation is the same as his in Tasmania when he kissed Glenn. Janae works for Rex Colt (David Serafin) at another garage, until he almost sexually assaults her. Allan Steiger (Joe Clements
) manages to rescue her, but Janae is almost charged for assaulting Rex in an attempt to save herself. Janae finds Max and tells him to return. Glenn arrives in Erinsborough and Boyd realises that he still has feelings for her. Janae gives Boyd two weeks to decide who he wants to be with. Boyd chooses Glenn.
Janae is horrified to discover that Ned is responsible for drugging Dylan and destroying his relationship with Elle Robinson (Pippa Black
), and she and Janelle blackmailed Ned into being their slave. However, Janae eventually forgives Ned and he soon becomes her boxing coach. Ned's brother Steve Parker
(Steve Bastoni
) and his family arrive in Erinsborough, Janae lets them store some furniture in her garage. After Ned reveals his feelings for her, the two get together. Ned found out that he has a son with previous girlfriend Kirsten Gannon
(Nikola Dubois
). Mickey (Fletcher O'Leary), is left by Kirsten in Ned's care and Janae decide to help him to look after the child. Ned then moves in with her and so did Mickey. Kirsten returnes to live in Ramsay Street permanently and gets a job in Charlie's. After which Kirsten clashes with Janae, as she claims she still has feelings for Ned. On the Oakey reunion, Kirsten kisses Ned, although he pushes her away. This causes the feelings of discomfort that Janae has been experiencing to grow, and after a fight over the Timmins' home, she spontaneously kisses Darren. Unfortunately, Kirsten had been watching through the window and began blackmailing Janae, wanting more access to Mickey. Janae eventually tells Ned, though he forgave her and they tried to sort their problems out. Janae comes clean about her kiss with Darren. Janae moved out of the house for a few days. Janae realises that she needs to leave and decides to go to Cairns. Unable to let her leave without a proper goodbye, Ned follows her yo the airport and the couple share one last tender kiss before Janae leaves Ramsay Street.
, Taylor-Cotter was nominated in the category of "Best Actress". The following year she was nominated in the "sexiest female" category. British newspaper The Sun describe Janae as "the Neighbours troublemaker". Adelaide based newspaper The Advertiser refer to Taylor-Cotter as "making her name playing the Ramsay Street rebel". The Herald Sun
state that they found the Timmins family "unappealing" but added that Janae had been made the most of during her duration, an branded Taylor-Cotter a "talented blonde" for her portrayal. British local newspaper the Dorset Echo
refer to Janae as a "feisty car mechanic". Fellow cast member Ian Smith who plays Harold in the serial expressed his sadness that the Timmins family were axed. However, he added he was glad Janae had been chosen to stay on stating: "Fortunately, we're still left with Janae, played by Eliza Taylor-Cotter. ), who is pregnant. Janae continues her counseling sessions with Karl and begins to gradually get more dependent on him, delighted that she was being appreciated and treated like an adult. In an attempt to pay off the family's debts, the Timmins' send off a tape to the TV show 'Stupid Aussies', which showed a video of Janae singing into her hairbrush. However she wins the family $5000, and decides to keep the money to herself, wanting a breast enlargement. However, she quickly backs out when she meets the plastic surgeon.
Karl and Janae bond at a theatre night. Karl realises her intentions, he advises cutting back on the sessions Janae begins to cry, admitting she wishes Karl to be her father. He suggests getting in touch with her actual father and find a new interest. Janae becomes vice-captain of the basketball team, but when Karl arrives late, she runs off in tears. Janelle confrontes her daughter about her relationship with Karl, Janelle jumps to the conclusion that he is inappropriately involved with her daughter. Upon reading her diary and confronting Karl, Janelle trvaels to Colac to find Janae. Stingray and Dylan bring her back to clear Karl's name, and Janae also finds some details on her father while she is there. However, Dylan is presumed dead in the plane crash, Janae turns to Boyd and they start to date. Her father also returns and before long, he and Janelle get back together.
Janae and Boyd go on a road trip, and are horrified to find Janae's ex-boyfriend, Mike. However, Janae shows how much she'd matured, ignoring Mike and his new girlfriend, Karen Chambers (Cherise Donovan

When she found nothing out of the ordinary there, she checked Mike's, and was horrified to find he was HIV positive. Janae tells Bree, who tells their father, who promises to stand by her. Eventually, Janae admits to Boyd that she and Mike did more than just kiss, and that he should take a test too. Luckily, the test results come back negative, and she suggests to Boyd that their relationship should not be all about sex. However, jealously quickly sets in when Boyd began talking to girls on his medicine course. He warns Janae about threatening other girls, but she continues to do so when she saw Boyd chatting with his fellow medical student, Sasha Hennessey (Eliose Grace). Following the birth of Boyd's brother Charlie (Aaron Aulsebrook-Walker), Janae becomes obsessed with the idea of children. Sasha overhears his, and tells Boyd that Janae is trying to trap him into marriage. They split up, during which time Janae takes fellow neighbour, Ned Parker

Unable to contain her feelings, she blurts out to Bree about her real parentage, and when Boyd returns, was adamant that she could survive on her own. Instead, Boyd turns up on her doorstep and proposed to her.

However, after the chaos of Kim and Janelle's wedding, Max warns Boyd that if he decides to go ahead with his proposal, he would throw him out the house. ). Mickey (Fletcher O'Leary), is left by Kirsten in Ned's care and Janae decide to help him to look after the child. Ned then moves in with her and so did Mickey. Kirsten returnes to live in Ramsay Street permanently and gets a job in Charlie's. After which Kirsten clashes with Janae, as she claims she still has feelings for Ned. On the Oakey reunion, Kirsten kisses Ned, although he pushes her away. This causes the feelings of discomfort that Janae has been experiencing to grow, and after a fight over the Timmins' home, she spontaneously kisses Darren. Unfortunately, Kirsten had been watching through the window and began blackmailing Janae, wanting more access to Mickey. Janae eventually tells Ned, though he forgave her and they tried to sort their problems out. Janae comes clean about her kiss with Darren. Janae moved out of the house for a few days. Janae realises that she needs to leave and decides to go to Cairns. Unable to let her leave without a proper goodbye, Ned follows her yo the airport and the couple share one last tender kiss before Janae leaves Ramsay Street.
