. Jasrotia’s are originally from HASTINAPUR (MAHABHARAT). There is famous saying in Dogri “HASTINAPUR DE RAHNE WALE VEER JASROTIA MEYE”. They migrated to JAMMU when Mungal Emperor forcefully converting Hindu’s into Muslims. They wanted to re-unite and fight against this. Rulers amongst Jasrotia

Harrot is situated in Distt (Kangra) H.P, this village is at a distance of 5 k.m from a prominent place called Jaisingh Pur which is also the Tehsil of Distt Kangra. A prominent river "Haroti" flows through this village, named after the village "Harrot". Nearby villages to "Harrot" are "Jaryal Lad", "Umbar". Most of the people still feel proud to join FORCES as a first career.

Prominent Jasrotias

Major Piar Singh

He was a notable military and Political figure of Jammu & Kashmir Sate India. He hailed from Village Janglote, District Kathua, J&K, India. After a distinguished career in the J&K State Forces, he was elected to the Jammu & Kashmir Constituent Assembly and afterwards was a minister in the Cabinet of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, the First Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.He also served in subsequent J&K Governments under various Prime Ministers. He is the architect of the Kandi Water Supply Scheme, which to this day provides drinking water to the inhabitants of the Kandi Areas of Kathua District.

Major Piar Singh's father, Thakur Swaran Singh had fought in the First World War. He had three sons. Eldest of them was Maj. Piar Singh, the second son Maj. Sansar Singh and third son Capt Hari Singh( Also known as Capt Harmir Singh).

Maj Ajay Singh Jasrotia

Maj Ajay Singh Jasrotia, moved with the unit for 'OP VIJAY' as part of 56 Mtn Bde. The unit was tasked to capture Pt 5140, which dominates the Srinagar-Leh Highway. Accordingly, an administrative base was sited at Drass. On 15 Jun 99, the location came under heavy enemy artillery shelling. The very first shell injured six OR and sent across a wave of shock and panic among other who desperately ran for cover. Maj Ajay Singh Jasrotia, immediately sensed the gravity of the situation, took charge and ordered all the troops to take cover within the area of the adm base

Thereafter, instead of taking cover, he attended to the casualties in spite of the continuing artillery shelling and arranged for evacuation of the wounded to safety. He organised troops into suitable groups and along with them, carried the soldiers on his back amidst heavy artillery shelling which continued unabated. During the evacuation of the casualties, a shell landed in close vicinity of Maj Jasrotia, injuring him seriously. With total disregard to his injuries, Maj Jasrotia continued with his task of evacuating the injured soldiers. This worsened his condition due to steady loss of blood, but in spite of persistent persuasions by the troops, Maj Jasrotia refused to be evacuated even as life slowly ebbed out of him. He finally succumbed to his injuries, thus making the supreme sacrifice of his life, but not before he had sent six serious casualties to their safety, all of whom later survived.

Capt Arun Singh Jasrotia (Ashok Chakra)

Ashok Chakra, the nation’s highest gallantry award during peace-time, has been awarded to brave paratrooper Capt Arun Singh Jasrotia in 1996. Capt Arun Jasrotia displayed grit and courage as he led his troops in a raid on a militant camp on September 15, 1995 where nearly 20 foreign mercenaries were holed up in the Lolab Valley. Finding his men in a disadvantageous position under rocket and rifle fire, Arun led the assault culminating in a fierce hand-to-hand fight. Despite multiple injuries, he pressed on with the assault and accounted for a number of militants, before a bullet ended his life.

Late Th. Baldev Singh Jasrotia (Former MP and MLA)

Th. Baldev Singh Jasrotia was born in an Army Family in 1918 at Puna. His father was late Subedar Major Thakur Narain Singh Jasrotia(Former ADC TO KING George Vth). He was a Law Graduate from Lahore University Before Joining Praja Parishid, Baldev Singh Jasrotia remained President of Rajput Sabha Jammu and became President Bhartiya jan Sangh. Shri Baldev Singh Jasrotia was a member of the 6th Lok Sabha from 1977 to 1979, representing Jammu constituency .He was contested MP elections from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency as a rival candidate under the banner of Janta Front and defeated Sheikh Abdul Rehman. In the period of 1980 he was elected as MLA from Hiranagar Assembly Constituency. In 1987 he was again elected as MLA from Hiranagar constituency and was elected as president of BJP j&K. He is survived by three sons and three daughters.

Shri Jasrotia, an advocate by profession, strove for bringing parity in the socio-economic and political status of the people, and worked for the welfare of the poor, downtrodden, disabled and the deprived sections of society. Shri Jasrotia died on August 25, 2008 at Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, at the age of 89.

Charanjit Singh Jasrotia won as independent candidate from Kathua constituency Elections 2008. Charanjit Singh Jasrotia is a former Government employee and worked as Additional DCs. Posted at KATHUA . Charanjit Singh Jasrotia bagged 19,123 votes and won the seat by 2362 votes defeating Som Raj Majotra (BSP, 16761), Babu Singh (Independent, 10,887), Prof Sain Dass (BJP, 7913) and Lal Singh (Congress, 6053). He is B.SC, M.A, B.ED.
