. The race in that district was hotly contested with challenging Social Credit candidate Broyce Jacobs
nearly defeating him. Thompson ran for a third term in office in the 1982 Alberta general election
. He improved his vote margin to win another hotly contested race, this time the challenging candidate was Steve Pinchak of the Western Canada Concept. Thompson did not run for a fourth term and retired at dissolution of the legislature in 1986.
