History

On April 28, 1959, KLOE-TV signed on the air from "Broadcast Plaza" in Goodland, co-located with KLOE-AM 730. For many years, the station provided full coverage of local news from a tiny studio on the west edge of the community. The building was originally only large enough for the radio station, so owner Ross Beach bumped up the ceiling half-a-story to accommodate television lighting. The stations "Tri-State Report" was a local news staple for many years.

In the 1990s, KLOE-TV's call letters changed to KBSL-TV. Most of the stations operations were moved to KBSH-TV in Hays, and the local news department was reduced to a one-person reporter/photographer crew. Daily news stories are fed via microwave to KWCH in Wichita, which produces all the news product for KBSL, as well as supplying commercial scheduling and Master Control operations. KBSL maintains a single news reporter in a sales office in Goodland in the building still primarily utilized by KLOE-AM and its sister radio stations.
