Kotputli is a town and a municipality

. It is made up of the main town named Kot and the nearby Putli village, which is now considered a part of the main town.

Kotputli has an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 56%. Kotputli was founded and ruled for a long time by "Tanwar" Rajputs and in the older times, the region was called "Torawati". The main landmarks of Kotputli include Lalchand Laxminarayan Dharamshala (Hanuman Mandir), B.D.M. Government Hospital, Sardar Senior Secondary School, Nagarpalika Park, Sitaram Arjundas Ramvilas Bagichi (I.T.I.), Lal Bahadur Shastri P.G. College, Azad Chowk, Purani Bawri and Shiv Mandir, Janana Hospital etc. A famous hotel namely "RAJDHANI TOURIST MOTEL (RTM)" situated on NH-8, 1 Km from the MAIN CHORAHA (intersection point of National highway with town's main market road) towards Jaipur, is the oldest hotel in the town since 1988.since 1945 a ayurvadic madician firm is working with name "SHRI RAM RASAYAN SHALA"near by nagar palika. There few other good hotels also namely SUKH SAGAR, DIWAAN etc. The Purani Bawri is an old step well or Bawri which was once used as a rain water reservoir. This has been dried up now. The old market is situated near Azad Chowk. Kotputli is also famous for it cheap and good quality of vegetables. Kotpulti is now emerging as Educational center, with many BEd colleges, good schools and some good Degree colleges. And there is a DENTAL college also.
Kotputli is also known for its rich cultural diversity.
Gurjars have the majority in the adjoining villages of the city and after the Triumph of R.S. Kasana this tribe become notorious.
