Geography

Lala is a vast plain within the Kapatagan Valley, consisting of 14,025 hectares (140.25 km2.). Lala also forms part of Kapatagan Valley of Lanao del Norte province and is strategically located along the coast of Panguil Bay. It is located about 14 kilometers from the municipality of Tubod

Climate and Agro-climatic characteristics

The municipality has no distinct season. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year with a mean monthly rainfall a minimum of 1.83 mm in December to a maximum of 3.15 in August. These figures are based on data taken from a five year observation in six observation areas by the National Irrigation Administration for the Maranding river Irrigation System. The six areas include: Balili and Butadon in Kapatagan; Lanipao, Magpatao, Darumawang Ilaya and Darumawang Bucana, in Lala.

Topography

Lala is generally plain. Approximately 90 % of the total land area are flat flowlands Its slope category, mainly ranges from level to gently sloping and undulating to 02.5 % slope. However, the eastern portion of Lala is strongly sloping. The same portion is also of high elevation which is 240–350 meters above sea level.

Soil Type

Five types of soil are present in Lala. All these types of soil except hydrosol type, are best suited for rice cultivation. Hydrosol on the other hand, which is the prevalent type along coastal zone is best suited for fishpond purposes.
Hydrology
Lala is endowed with several water bodies which perform both economic and ecological functions. The major one is Maranding River which supply the irrigation requirements of Kapatagan Valley. Its tributaries are the rivers of: Inasagan and Cabuyao rivers. The other major rivers are Butadon River and Kidalos River. Spring and creeks are also present.

Lala is the most densely populated municipality of the province being host to the most urbanized barangay which is Maranding. Its population is largely rural, which is more or less 70% of total population. There is predominance of male and young population.

Economy

Its economy is agriculture and fishery based. It main crops are rice, corn and coconut. It likewise produced fishery products from marine fishing and fishpond operation in the Panguil Bay area.
Barangay Maranding in Lala is also one of the highly urbanized barangays in Mindanao. It is the home of the three (3) colleges in the municipality. The barangay also has one commercial bank and a couple of rural banks.
Lala is also the richest municipality in Lanao del Norte in terms of income.

Lala's Pride

The municipality is in the middle of Kapatagan Valley, its highly urbanised baranggay Maranding, is the trading center in Lanao del Norte district 2 and even its neighboring province Zamboanga Del sur. Maranding, has always been Lala's pride, the first settler of Maranding were highly educated and this explains the great professionals the baranggay has produced. To name a few are Engr. Virgilio Sebial Pongase, a successful construction businessman in Cebu City(VIRLO Construction), Gilda Olvidado

, a famous Philippine romance novelist, Atty. Nicholas Lim, President of Kapatagan First Valley Bank, Archt. JOEL A. SUERTO, architect who hails one of the topnotcher during the architecture licensure exam on his time and not to mention all the doctors, lawyers, judges, engineers and accountants who had been successful to their own field. A lot of the residents in Maranding are successful businesswoman and businessmen that helps save local jobs and help stabilizes the economy of the small baranggay. The Taga-Maranding successful A-lister is still counting. Education with social curricculum is very important for people in Maranding. From toddler to Bachelors degree, Taga-Maranding boost a bucket full of talents. Since the boom of the three colleges in Maranding, it became a melting pot from all over its neighboring province in mindanao. Its really quiet interesting to visit Maranding especially during its annual fiesta for Christ the King held every 3rd Sunday of November.
