of Japanese prefectures in main Fiscal years, all figures are from Statistics Bureau of Japan (日本統計局). Calculating GDP of Japanese prefectures is based on Japanese yen
(JP¥), for easy comparison, all the GDP figures are converted into United States dollar
(US$) or Renminbi
(CN¥) according to current annual average exchange rates.
Note: Due to heavy changes in yen/yuan/dollar rates, nominal GDP may not reflect relative economic strength in foreign currency terms. Comparisons between years and prefectures are most meaningful in the native currency, the yen.
As of September 2011, the yen/dollar rate is 76.3, valuing Japan's 2010 GDP figure of 475.8 trln yen (esri.cao.go.jp) at US $6.236 trillion or 39.85 trillion yuan (at 6.39/dollar). That is slightly less than the revised 2010 figure for China of 40.1 trln yuan.
