were closed and the rails lifted. The original Lostock Hall Motive Power Depot was closed in 1968 and subsequently demolished. Many rumours state that this site was once home to the original Lostock Hall station, but this is not true. The original 2-platform station was located to the west of the present site on the other side of the road bridge shown in the photograph. The end of the Blackburn platform would be just visible from the viewpoint. Access to the Preston platform was from the ticket office that was built out from the bridge on its westside, the Blackburn platform was accessed via the highway footpath and on to a stair leading down from the bridge. Trains stopping at this station provided services to Preston and Blackburn; and to Liverpool and Blackburn, this service did not call at Preston.
After a considerable interval of time, local pressure led to the building of a new but modest two-platform stop (opened in 1984). This was situated on the other side of a road bridge away from the original station. There is no ticket office or clock.
