Born in Montreal
, he was educated at André-Grasset College and Saint-Jean-Vianney College. He obtained his BA in Theology in 1973 and his master's degree in pastoral care to the University of Sherbrooke in 1983.
From 1983 to 1985, he studied dogmatic theology
and sacramental theology in Gregorian University and the pontifical institute of Saint Anselm. He exercised his ministry in parishes John XXIII, Purification of BVM, St. Colette and Saint-Joseph de Mont-Royal.
He was chaplain of the Mount Royal Scouts, episcopal secretary and member of the pontifical family. From 1996 to 1999 it is episcopal vicar for the region of East-Montreal. In 1999, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Montreal and titular bishop of Thizica
. Until 2002, he was responsible for the parish facilities.
In 2001 at the Catholic Cathedral of Montreal. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. At the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Quebec, he served as a member of the Committee of the liturgy, theology and social communications.
