Established in 1971, Manresa School is run by the nuns of the Congregation of the Hijas de Jesús, founded by Candida Maria de Jesus
in Salamanca, Spain on 8 December 1871.
The philosophies of the Congregation of the Hijas de Jesús are rooted in the teachings of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. The founding of the Congregation itself was assisted by Fr. Miguel Herranz, SJ, a Jesuit priest.
Sharing the motto Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam which means "For the Greater Glory of God" with the Society of Jesus, Manresa aims to promote the Greater Glory of God and the welfare of its neighbours through education in the faith and Christian formation of youth. The spiritual formation is guided by the life and virtues of Saint Candida Maria de Jesus.
Manresa School offers education in the Preschool (Nursery, Kindergarten, and Preparatory), Elementary (1st to 6th grades) and Secondary (Years 1 to 4) levels.
, south of Manila. This is in response to the call of the Church to open center of Catholic education outside Manila. Through the generous helpof Don Jesus Cabarrus, the Hijas de Jesus were able to acquire a school site of 3 hectares.
On June 19, 1971, Manresa School welcomed the first group of children into two-storey building. Sisters Angeles Garcia, F.I., Gertrudes Magdayao, F.I., Rosa Ortega, F.I. and Victoria Ruy, F.I. were the first Hijas de jesus Sisters assigned to form a community to run the school.
The name Manresa was chosen because of the sginificance of the place to the Hijas de Jesus Sisters. Their Foundress, Blessed Candida Maria de Jesus, left them a legacy and heritage the Ignnatian Spirituality. From this spirituality, the sisters draw guidance and inspiration in loving and serving God in all things. In a cave near a town called Manresa north of Spain, St. Ignatius of Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (S.J.) stayed here for several months where he spent hours in prayer. It was here that the ideas for the Spiritual Exercises began to take shape which is the source of Ignatian Spirituality. For St. Ignatius, Manresa was a school of prayer and apostolic commitment.
A year later, its door opened to the primary grades. Every year thereafter, a new grade level was added until the whole elementary department was completed.
The school year 1977-1978 ushered in the high school department which opened to co-education. On March 26, 1981, the school witnessed its first fruits as sixty graduates received their high school diplomas. In the same year, the school was granted the permission to open the Nursery program which completed the Pre-School Department. ~
Manresa School celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in 1996. Its apostolic mission continued to be vibrant. True to its commitment of providing quality education, the Grade school had its PAASCU Preliminary Survey in School Year 1999-2000. In May 31, 2001, the school was granted the level 1 of PAASCU Accreditation. The Formal Survey took place in SY 2001-2002. On the same year, the High School Department started its PAASCU Preliminary Survey.
On January 31, 2003, Manresa School was granted the level II PAASCU Accreditation for the Grade School Program and Level I PAASCU Accreditation for the High School Program.
On February 10 to 11, 2007, Manresa School celebrated its 35th year since its foundation in 1971.
In maintaining its quality instruction, the school underwent PAASCU Re-Survey in School Year 2007-2008. On May 5, 2008, Manresa School was granted five years Level II PAASCU Accreditation for the High School Program.
On School Year 2010-2011, Manresa School celebrated the canonization of Saint Candida Maria de Jesus. There were various activities all year-round.
