Early career
Michael started fishing at an early age where he regularly hunted for trout, panfish, and salwater fish. He would then come to enjoy fishing for bass with artificial baits. As a young man in grade school he regularly practiced and learned about new baits and ways of catching bass. By the time he graduated high school he had already joined a local bass club and was now experiencing a new competitive aspect of bass fishing. Iaconelli won the 2003 Bassmasters Classic and also won angler of the year award in 2006. Michael came in 2nd place in the 2009 Bassmaster Classic, just behind the winner by 11 ounces. Michael qualified for the Bassmaster elite in 2009, and has qualifed for the 2010 Bassmaster Classic that will be held on Lay Lake in Birmingham, Alabama on February 19–21, 2010.
