, founded on 16 February 1958. It used to be one of the strongest second division teams in Croatia. Nowadays (2009), NK Špansko is playing in the third Croatian league.
, a Belgian international and a well known Premiership player, started his career at NK Špansko. In those years Špansko were a strong second division club and Strupar a neighbourhood hero. From ŠRC Špansko Strupar moved to the Belgian side K.R.C. Genk.
It is also interesting to know that Strupar is a native of the Prečko, a rival neighbourhood. Prečko is located on the south of Špansko, directly next to it.
