Noorderslag

Noorderslag is a one-day annual pop music festival that takes place in January in the cultural center of Oosterpoort in Groningen. Noorderslag is part of The European Music Conference and Showcase Festival Eurosonic Noorderslag
. The festival takes place on the Saturday after Eurosonic.
Over 50 Dutch bands and acts perform. The first edition of Noorderslag was held in 1986 and started out as a “battle” between Belgian and Dutch bands. Later on the focus moved towards Dutch pop music. Since 2008 the festival is broadcasted live by the NOS (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation). Since 2004 each edition of the festival was sold out well in advance. Noorderslag is organized by Noorderslag Foundation

During Noorderslag the annual Pop Award
is presented to a person or artist for making the year’s most outstanding contribution to Dutch pop music.
The Pop Award 2010, presented at Noorderslag 2011, was won by Caro Emerald.
Eurosonic Noorderslag
In 2011 Eurosonic Noorderslag presented Eurosonic Air, a free stage at the market square in Groningen, to celebrate its 25th birthday.
