In August 2005, John S. Panikkar (co-founder of High Fidelity HDTV), was granted a licence by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to launch OasisHD, a digital HD specialty channel devoted to "urban and wild landscapes by Canadian and international cinematographers."The channel launched on March 12, 2006 as Oasis HD focusing on nature programming.
