. After being adopted in its current form in 2001, it came into force on 1 January 2003, replacing the Municipal Act, 1990. There has been previous versions of the act:
  • 1944 - amendment govering smaller police forces in villages, towns and cities; it also allowed the contracting of the OPP for local policing needs, this was replaced by the Police Services Act of Ontario
