Founded in 1872, the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) is Canada
's oldest continuously operating art society. The list of objectives drawn up by the founding executive included 'the fostering of Original Art in the province, the holding of Annual Exhibitions, and formation of an Art Library and Museum and School of Art. Original membership includes painters, architects, sculptors, engravers and designers.
Many of Ontario's foremost artists have belonged to the OSA; however, many notable Ontario artists have also not been affiliated with the society. This is largely due to artists being able to promote and exhibit their art works independently via new means of the World Wide Web.
