and runs between Chennai Egmore
and Madurai
Junction via Tiruchirapalli
. The name of the train commemorates the 10th-13th century Pandian Kingdom of Tamil Nadu. It is a standard train consisting of 24 coaches. The main towns on the way are Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur
, Tiruchirapalli and Dindigul
. The train operates daily and covers a distance of 497 km.The train runs at a top speed of 110 Km/hr
It is one of the few trains to have a full 1st AC coach and is a Prestigious train with Southern Railways.
This train had the livery changed twice - first it had the "Olive-Green livery", separated by 2 yellow-lines between the upper & lower part of the windows & later on it was changed to "Maroon colour" on the MG.
This train was numbered as 6717/6718 when it was run on MG. It was hauled by YAM4 - electric loco from Chennai Egmore to Villupuram Jn. & then from Villupuram Jn. to Madurai, it was hauled by YDM2 - diesel loco, similar changes were followed on its return journey.
The down train starts at 21.15 Hours from Chennai Egmore.
