History

Peace Tea was created by the Southern California based company, Hansen Natural Corporation. In the 1930's, Hubert Hansen and his three sons began selling fresh, non-pasteurized juices to film studios and retailers in Southern California under the Hansen's® name. In the 1970's, Tim Hansen, the grandson of Hubert, developed and marketed a variety of Natural sodas and pasteurized shelf-stable, 100% juices also under the Hansen's® label. The company engages in the development, marketing, sale and distribution of beverages in the United States and internationally. The company principally offers natural sodas, fruit juices and juice drinks, energy drinks and energy sports drinks, fruit juice smoothies and functional drinks, non-carbonated ready-to-drink iced teas, children’s multi-vitamin juice drinks, and flavored sparkling beverages under the Hansen’s brand name. The Hansen’s Natural Company has been a leading marketer of all natural alternatives as well as functional beverages for over 70 years. In the new millennium, a combination of acquisitions and new product launches landed the company near the top of the Forbes list of the 200 Best Small Companies in the United States.

Hansen is best known for its Monster energy drinks, which outpace competitors Red Bull and Rockstar in terms of liquid sold in the U.S. But Peace Tea is a bit of a throwback for the company, which built its reputation on juices and sodas.
The Monster logo can be found on the packaging cans of Peace Tea.

Peace Tea is also an avid competitor of Arizona brand iced teas in the ready-to-drink beverage category, as well as drinks from Snapple, Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

The Peace Symbol Inspiration

The Peace Symbol is a universal symbol for peace which was the very inspiration behind the creation of Peace Tea. "Peace Tea is whatever you want it to be," says the brand's official Web site, which is festooned with peace signs. Peace Tea "stands for social obligation, social awareness, benevolence, compassion and soul. It can, in the form of a mere liquid, be your own form of poetry, art, music, philosophy, belief system."

Label art

The company has taken it upon themselves to promote their products as a form of artwork as to move away from the commercial use of the peace symbol.

He later earned a background in old master's style painting and has since been self-taught in fine art, illustration, comics, and design.
