On November 1, 2011, Peggy Krusick introduced a bill that would ban race as a factor when giving out college scholarships. The Assembly was caught off guard by Ms. Krusick's unexpected bill, which was adamantly opposed by fellow Democrats. The result was an all night debate with it eventually passing at 8 am the following morning with all Republicans and Krusick voting for it and all remaining Democrats voting against it. Democrats met behind closed doors to discuss Krusick's possible punishment afterwards. Protesters confronted her in the Wisconsin State Capitol.
