In the show, the Rumor Weed was created when Larry-Boy accidentally knocks a potted plant of a rooftop. The plant landed on some telephone lines where a woman was gossiping with her friend on the phone. The electricity from the wires shocked the plant and it fell into the sewers. And just before the title card, the plant comes to life with a big grin. Junior and Laura were the first to come in contact with the weed. They told her that they thought Larry-Boy's butler Alfred was a robot
due to hearing him say he needed to "recharge his batteries"
Once she was told that, more weeds started growing all over the city, spreading the rumor to citizens like Percy Pea, Mr. Nezzer, Mayor Blueberry and many more, with each person adding on to the story. Because the weeds were spreading the rumor, the original weed in the sewers continued to grow into the Mother Weed. Larry-Boy goes to the sewers to stop the Mother Weed; however, he did not know what to do and Alfred could not contact him through the radio. Then, he sees a small weed thinking this is the Mother Weed. But when the real Mother Weed came out of the shadows, Larry-Boy was shocked to see her. He found a weed-killing spray gun in the Larry-Mobile, but he pushed the wrong button causing the spray to drop to the floor. With no way to stop her, the Weed beat him up and threw him against the wall next to the small weed (who was then able to tell him "the one about Alfred"). Eventually, the Weed became so powerful that she burst out of the sewers near Town Hall. Noticing Alfred, she grabs him and surrounds the hall. After Dad Asparagus asks the Weed if she made up the story, the Weed tells him that Junior and Laura started it. They confess about their misunderstanding, and start spreading nice words about Alfred to reverse the damage. Once the nice words were said, the Weed started sprouting flowers, and her head burst into a giant flower.
. Also, each weed has enhanced strength due to gaining so much energy from spreading the rumor. This has also given her invincibility; therefore, Larry-Boy's weed whacker and hedge trimmer have no effect on her.
